How I work

Therapeutic philosophy and approach
In my practice, therapy and psychotherapy are potent tools for delving into the depths of personal experience. Cultivating a robust foundation of trust and comfort with my clients is pivotal for flourishing the therapeutic journey. As an expert in my field, I advocate for stabilising clients cognitively and emotionally before introducing more innovative techniques such as EMDR, EFT, Havening Technique, mindfulness and others.

Initial consultation and goal-setting
During our initial consultation, I welcome any questions you may have about the therapeutic journey and encourage you to explain your needs, goals, and aspirations for our sessions together.

Compassionate and supportive environment
My therapeutic approach is underpinned by compassion and empathy, and I am steadfastly committed to fostering a safe and nurturing environment. Before commencing our therapeutic endeavours, I establish clear boundaries to prioritise your comfort and well-being throughout our time together.

Specialisation in addiction therapy
I specialise in addressing all types of addiction, drawing upon my extensive training and experience in drug and alcohol treatment. Should you choose to embark on a therapy journey to confront your addiction, our focus will be on gaining insight into its root causes and exploring the thoughts, emotions, and actions that have fuelled it.

Unveiling the depths: addiction and the iceberg analogy
Exploring the causes of addiction is akin to navigating the depths of an iceberg. Just as only a fraction of an iceberg is visible above the water’s surface, often, the surface-level behaviours associated with addiction represent only a small fraction of the underlying complexities. Beneath the surface lie deep-seated emotions, unresolved traumas, and intricate patterns of thought that drive addictive tendencies. Just as an iceberg’s submerged mass exerts a profound influence on its visible tip, these underlying factors profoundly shape and fuel addictive behaviours. By delving beneath the surface, we can uncover the roots of addiction, gaining insight into the submerged aspects of one’s psyche and addressing them to facilitate lasting recovery.

We explore underlying causes

We explore underlying causes of your addiction or problems

Collaborative recovery process
Through collaborative efforts, you will acquire the vital self-awareness and understanding necessary to identify the triggers prompting your addictive impulses. Together, we will devise tailored strategies to navigate these triggers effectively and develop coping mechanisms to manage withdrawal symptoms as you progress towards recovery.

Holistic recovery approach
Furthermore, recognising that recovery extends beyond the therapy room, we will assess external influences and relationships that may either hinder or support your journey towards abstinence. In addition to therapy, I advocate for the involvement of 12 Step fellowships and other mutual aid groups, as they can provide invaluable support. However, I acknowledge that the 12-step approach may not suit everyone, and we can explore alternative options during our sessions.
